Photographer's Child Syndrome

Here's my beautiful daughter as Bruce & Gail's flower girl. Mom just wanted a few shots of her looking beautiful in her dress, especially since Grandma threatened to crash the wedding to be able to see her baby do her flower girl duties. This is what I got:

"Just one good shot for Grandma, sweetie."

"C'mon, Mia. I'm serious. You can even say 'cheese'!"

M_wed3

"This is it. I swear. We're going to be done and Grandma won't have any nice pictures of you in your beautiful princess dress. Fine."

Don't try this at home

This sand bath is courtesy of a little client who wanted to help me photograph his family and accidentally knocked my camera into the sand. I always shoot beach work with two cameras at a time and I was concentrating so hard on the other kids in the family having their turn that I didn't see the little guy coming and my poor waiting camera took a dive into the sand from where it was resting on my knee. Totally my fault and I think the camera has finally forgiven me for not paying attention to him in his hour of need.

So camera #1 won the prize and is off to Nikon repair next week (known around here as "The Spa") for his yearly cleaning and calibration. Once he returns, camera #2 will go for HIS yearly checkup. And then, yes.. you saw this coming... camera #3 will get his turn. Why don't I send them all together or at least in batches of two? Because every pro needs a backup camera at all times, of course.

Such is the life of a camera belonging to a photographer who lives at the beach!

Do you have space for me?

I'm looking for a space to rent for the winter months for a special KHP project. The ideal space will be located in/around the city of Myrtle Beach or south as far as Murrells Inlet, be approximately 1000 sq ft, and cheap. Yep, this girl's looking for a bargain and would be willing to barter rent for portraits.

If you have a small storefront, loft or light industrial you'd like to rent/sublet for the winter to a great tenant who'll take care of your place and leave it spic 'n span for you to move back into just in time for the season to begin, let me know at kimberly@kimberlyhillphotography.com

Snapshots are okay too

On Saturday, Mia and I met our best friends from Charleston to spend some time at Brookgreen Garden's Harvest Home Festival. This was our first time at the garden and we're going back this week (tickets are good for 7 days) for some more fun.

I'm working on celebrating the moment with my kids instead of trying to make portraits out of everything.  Let's see how I did...

Mia with her rainbow - can you believe this is the first time she's had her face painted?!?

Bg4

The really cool scarecrow guy. This was shot over my shoulder as we were walking away. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

Bg1

L. and Fallina, our scarecrow. This is the first time I ever used the pop-up flash on my camera, LOL!

Tired, itchy, hungry girls

It's a shame Brookgreen doesn't allow professional portraits on their grounds but apparently a few bad apples ruined it for the rest of us. Phooey on them!

My Pooh Personality

A friend sent this link along and I had to play. My kids will definitely agree with the last sentence, but I hope my clients agree with the first, LOL!

Take the 100 Acre Personality Quiz!

finally... Kayleigh's senior session

Poor sweet Kayleigh's been waiting for what seems like ages for her session. She's so darn pretty and I love her to pieces.

So here's a bit of Kayleigh to share. Okay, more than a bit. It was too hard to narrow the session down!  :)

DEADLINE: Holiday Cards

Holiday card orders are arriving from the lab and they're GORGEOUS! I just love the linen paper and matching envelopes and it's so fun to see my 2007 clients all over again as they order their holiday cards.

Don't wait - the deadline for placing your holiday card order is November 2nd. Any orders placed after November 2nd will incur a $25 rush order fee to receive cards in November. All holiday card orders MUST be placed by November 16th. After that date I can no longer promise December delivery.

Quoted.

How cool is this? I was quoted in the most recent issue of "Studio Photography Magazine" in the Peer-to-Peer survey section touting the awesome service I receive from one of my favorite vendors, Paul at LensProToGo.

"For the year I've rented lenses and equipment from LensProToGo, the owner has gone above and beyond with customer service. Equipment arrives when promised, clean, and well packed in Pelican cases."

Uber cool.  :)

For Amy, who has no idea how pretty she is.
